Sunrises, Sunsets and Nightfalls over the Sea of Galicia
As on many other occasions, I began a new stage in my work — this time focusing on sunrises, sunsets, and nightfalls over the Galician sea. With a few exceptions, all the pieces I’m creating are large-scale works inspired by small pastel sketches born from my imagination — or rather, from what has accumulated in my retina after long observations.
I know myself well, and I’m aware that when I stand before nature or any other subject, I tend to cling to it so intensely that I often end up producing an overworked piece. That’s why, alone in my studio, giving free rein to my imagination and revisiting those sketches, I bring my work to life.
Like nature itself, it sometimes turns fierce and other times leads us to peace. My art, too, sometimes brings calm and at other times stirs unease — though that is never my intention. Perhaps it all simply reflects my state of mind.
When the artist loses
the ability to be surprised by their own work,
their end is near.
